The role of shadow in botanical fine art photography
In chiaroscuro botanical photography, shadow is not a background. It is an active part of the composition. Darkness determines where the eye rests, where tension appears and which details may come forward.
The reference to Rembrandt-like light is not imitation, but attention: natural light moving along a flower, illuminating an edge and letting the rest disappear. The flower becomes less object and more character.
For dark floral photography, that difference is crucial. Without shadow, a flower remains decoration. With shadow, there is space, stillness and the possibility to look longer.
